Birmingham Graduate School: Where You Are versus Where You Want To Be!

Would you like to know the secret of how to be where you want to be rather than where you are? Birmingham Graduate School has the answer.

Where do you want to be in five years’ time? In a higher paid job? How about in ten, or even twenty years? Questions like these don’t usually have specific answers; people often answer them with a dream. In order to turn a dream into an achievable goal, one needs to avoid distraction with specificity.

So how can you avoid distraction from your goals? By setting SMART goals: Specific, Measureable, Achievable, Realistic, Time-bound goals.

There are three steps to creating a SMART goal:

1. List financial goals

When you write down a financial dream, it stops being an abstract thought and becomes concrete. For example if the goal was, ‘I want a better job’, writing this down will force you to consider the specifics of this goal and how to achieve it.

2. Categorise and prioritise goals

Categorisation: If the goal can be achieved in fewer than three years, it is considered a short-term goal. If it will take 4-7 years, it is a mid-term goal and if it will take longer than 7 years it is a long-term goal. This categorisation will help you to create an achievable plan for the future.

Prioritisation: Some goals are clearly more important than others. If two of your goals are: ‘to go on a cruise holiday’ and ‘to get a better salary’, to go on a cruise will have a lower priority. This again, will help you to make a long-term plan and to know which goals can take a backseat if finances are temporarily reduced.

3. Target date

Finally, setting a target date is very important. It allows for proper planning and for financial preparedness. Setting a target date influences thought processes, a psychological countdown begins.

Birmingham Graduate School can help you achieve these goals. Whether it is to get a better salary or more work satisfaction: an MBA with Birmingham Graduate School will help you to climb the career ladder and get the job you deserve.
